How to charge cards through TD Online Mart

If your bank has you on TD Merchant Solutions and you'd rather every card charge settle to that account, you can run OutfitterHQ card payments through TD Online Mart instead of Stripe. Deposits, balances, and no-show charges land in your TD business account. We never touch the money.

This option is off by default. Ask us to turn it on for your shop; then it shows up under Settings → Pricing & payments → Card processor.

Before you start

  1. Call TD Merchant Solutions and ask for TD Online Mart on your existing merchant account. A PIN pad agreement on its own does not include it.
  2. Ask for the card-not-present rate and any monthly gateway fee in writing. It is usually not the rate you pay on the PIN pad.
  3. TD sets you up in test mode first and emails you when it's ready.

Get your two passcodes

Sign in to the TD Online Mart portal.

  1. Administration → Account Settings → Order Settings. Under API access passcode, click Generate, then Update. Copy it. This is your Payments API passcode.
  2. Configuration → Payment Profile Configuration → Security Settings. Under API access passcode, click Generate, then Update. Copy it. This is your Payment Profiles API passcode. Set Cards per profile to at least 1.
  3. Note your Merchant ID (the 9-digit number in the top bar).

Connect it in OutfitterHQ

  1. Open Settings → Pricing & payments (admin).
  2. Under Card processor, pick TD Online Mart.
  3. Paste the Merchant ID and both passcodes. Click Connect TD Online Mart. We ping TD with both passcodes before saving anything; a typo won't replace working credentials.
  4. Pick how the OutfitterHQ booking fee is collected (only matters if you pass part of the fee to guests):
    • One charge, invoiced monthly — the guest sees one TD charge. You keep the fee portion and we add it to your month-end invoice.
    • Separate fee charge — the guest's deposit goes to TD; the fee is a second, smaller charge from OutfitterHQ. Two lines on their statement, nothing extra on your invoice.
  5. Save.

Test it

While TD has you in test mode:

  1. Make a throwaway booking and send yourself the card link.
  2. Use card 4030 0000 1000 1234, any future expiry, CVV 123. It approves. (Real cards decline on a test account.)
  3. Check the booking shows Card on file and, if you take deposits online, a card deposit in the payment history.
  4. Cancel the booking. The deposit refund goes back through TD.

Go live

  1. Reply to TD's "ready for testing" email saying you're ready to go live. They confirm within a day or two.
  2. TD erases test-mode profiles and passcodes at go-live. Go back to the portal, generate both passcodes again, and re-enter them in Settings. Any card saved during testing is gone; that's expected.
  3. Run one real charge and refund on your own card to confirm.

Day to day

Nothing about the desk changes. Card at the counter saves (and, if you're on split deposits, charges) the card through TD. Email link sends the same secure page. Charge card on file runs the balance or a no-show charge against the saved card. Refunds on cancel go back to the same card.

Limits, honestly

  • Canadian dollars only. One TD merchant account per shop.
  • Test-mode cards don't survive go-live; don't take real bookings on a test account.
  • TD can't split a charge, so the booking fee is either on your invoice or a separate charge — never carved out of the TD deposit automatically.
  • If a passcode is rotated in the TD portal, charges fail until you paste the new one. Settings shows Test connection so you can check any time.
  • Switching back to Stripe is blocked while upcoming bookings still hold a TD card on file; a Stripe account can't charge those.
