Custom fields & booking form

Optional module (Settings → Advanced → Custom fields & booking form). Off by default. When it is off, the desk form, the guest book page, and boat assignment stay exactly as they are today.

Turn it on when you need answers the built-in form does not have — guest height, a dog on the trip, a max paddler height on the boat type — and, optionally, when those answers should change which boats we recommend.

What you get

  • Fields — typed questions on the booking, each person, the customer, the boat type, or one hull. Height is usually per person; “bringing a dog” is once for the trip; max paddler height lives on the boat type. Edit a field to change the label or who is asked. The answer kind stays put so past bookings keep their answers.
  • Layout — Settings → Booking form → Layout. You start on your current form, not a blank canvas. Dates, lakes, party size, the recommendation, the quote, the waiver, and the deposit stay as locked blocks. You can move them. You cannot delete them. The guest layout cannot get the hull picker.
  • Assignment — a short table of rules. “When any guest’s height is over this boat type’s max paddler height, don’t recommend that boat.” Prefer rules show up at the bottom of Settings → Booking rules → Prioritization. Drag order is the weight — there is no slider.

How assignment uses the answers

Hard rules drop a boat from the pool. Soft rules only change order inside the same lake tier. Location still wins unless you drag a prefer rule above those tiers in Prioritization.

If Maya is too tall for a 16-footer, that boat is out for everyone, even the kids who would fit. We do not put her in the 17 and them in the 16. Staff can still tick a dropped boat by hand. The form should say why it was dropped.

Where you fill them in

  • Desk: New booking / edit, when the field is collected at the desk.
  • Guest: /book/… details step, when the field is collected online.
  • Fleet: hull edit and boat-type edit, for inventory facts.

Limits, honestly

  • Off until you turn the module on.
  • Does not change quotes or deposits.
  • Does not assign people to seats. One person who fails a boat knocks it out for the party.
  • No per-package layouts and no “if they said X, hide section Y” on the form yet. Assignment rules are the only conditionals.
